Tryouts for the 2023-2024 season will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023. Below is information about the tryout process, how to register, open practices, fees, player roster assignments, and more.

Tryout Format
Players will be evaluated on the following skills:
- Baserunning
- Hitting
- Infield
- Outfield
- Pitching
Open Practices
We will offer free open practices for all interested players. Players are not required to attend open practices, nor will they be evaluated during practices. Practices will be run by team coaches, and players will be grouped by their age group. Interested players do not need to register to attend open practices, as they are free and open to current players and all those interested in the Little Hawks Baseball Club. All players must register before the day of tryouts.
Open practices will be on the following dates/times and locations:
Ages 8u-14u at Mercer Park, Iowa City

- Saturday, August 5, 10:00am - 11:30am
- Wednesday, August 9, 6:00pm - 7:30pm
Age 7u: City Park, Iowa City
- Tuesday, August 1, 6:00pm - 7:30pm
- Tuesday, August 8, 6:00pm - 7:30pm
Online Registration
All players ages 8u - 14u must register before August 12th. Click Register below to enter the registration portal. Please be sure to register for the age group your player will be in next season (see below for ages and grades). Use your previously created user name and password, or if you are new to our club, please create an account. For ages 8u-14u, there is the club fee of $150 that is due at registration, and is fully refundable if your player is not selected to a team.
For age 7u, families should register as soon as they have decided to join the Little Hawks Baseball Club.
Announcement of Rosters
Rosters will be announced approximately two weeks after tryouts. Families will receive an email message with the team roster and head coach contact information. The head coach will follow up with families shortly thereafter with more information about next season. It is our goal for all players to make one of our teams, but depending on the number of players who tryout, some players may not be selected for a team. If a player is not selected for a team, the $150 registration fee will be fully refunded.
Age Divisions
Beginning this season, players who are new to Little Hawks Baseball Club are to register and try out for the age division associated with the grade level they will enter in the fall of 2023. Any new player who wishes to try out for an older age division will be considered on a case by case basis and the family must contact the club prior to tryouts. Players are only able to tryout for one age division. In the event the player is not selected for the older age division, we will make every effort to work with coaches to place the player on a team within their grade, and in accordance with their playing ability. Below are the grade levels and age divisions.
- 6u/7u - Kindergarten or 1st Grade
- 8u - 2nd Grade
- 9u - 3rd Grade
- 10u - 4th Grade
- 11u - 5th Grade
- 12u - 6th Grade
- 13u - 7th Grade
- 14u - 8th Grade
7u Division
The 7u age division (Kindergarten and 1st Grade) is a competitive coach pitch division, with a focus on providing proper instruction and development of fundamental baseball skills. Players will have a blast learning the game of baseball, and will have the opportunity to play weekly games against other area club baseball teams, and even play in competitive tournaments around the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area. While there are no tryouts for the 7u age division, interested families are encouraged to attend the open practices to see what it is like to be a Little Hawk! Parents are welcome to stay during the open practices to ask questions, meet coaches, etc. Registration is not required to attend open practices, so just drop by! The club fee of $150 will not be due until families have decided to join the team.
